It's DONE!

I added a photo but this blog page is a bit clunky.. not sure where it's showing.
Thanks so much everyone for your support of this piece of my Konenki journey.. and Of Course of Women Can organisation for gynaecological cancer research xo
Will sign out tomorrow!

The date is set.

Just a note to let you know that the date for the Shave is confirmed at 30.4.25...

Thankyou so much!

Thankyou so much to all have contacted me for support and/or donated to Research for Gynaecological Cancer Treatments xoxo

I'm going to leave this page open until I actually shave my head. Just finalising how best to do the deed... Target reached sooo fast.
Probably post a picture just before I close  it
You can still donate to the cause if you like. Yes it is tax deductible.

Thanks again!

So what is this about?

I've been wanting to shave my head since I met a fellow backpacker in 90s London who shaved hers in preparation for travel through hot dry tropical climates.

Now finally feels like the right time for me.

Konenki is a Japanese word I heard at a perimenopause education event. Broken down, it means something along the lines of Spring time change and renewal and is a word for menopause. This is my celebration of Konenki.

STILL.... I need a little help to choose the date to shave my head and decided a commitment to fundraising would be it.

Leukaemia and other blood cancers are traditionally the fundraiser attached to hair shaving but for this Gynaecological Cancer Research feels better fit.

SO when I reach my target, maybe around 30.4.25,  I will shave my head and stop colouring my hair to embrace this Konenki AND fundraise for this set of cancers that maybe don't get as much discussion as some others.

.. I'm also using it as a way to give friends and family a heads up so you're not as shocked when you see me with a shaved head.. so no pressure to donate! x

Thank you to my Sponsors

Script the Change A bit warm is all, that’s the menopause norm, nothing a fan and a cold drink won’t sort. But we’ve just no idea what’s coming our way, not needed to know, “old” was so far away. Unaware of the migraines, heads clamped in a vice, the night sweats and restlessness, and long sleepless nights. Unprepared for the bloating and muscles which throb, the forgetting of words and the dreaded brain fog. Not thought of the bruising and the dry itchy skin, the weight gain and joint pain and hair looking thin. In the dark about mood swings and the deluge of tears, the panic attacks and gripped by a fear. And it’s not just a bit warm, it’s flashes of fire, the burning recurring, no sign it will tire. This list is hard hitting but it’s not meant to scare, it’s to rewrite the script and to make us aware. Let us train up our colleagues and teach it in schools, this menopause talk is no longer taboo Whilst they’re health tips and treatments and choices to make, it’s a journey to get through, and we’ll find our own way. Whichever the path, there’s a need to be freed from the untruths assumed, time to get up to speed. Maria, 2022
