TEAM TEAL RESULTS 2024
Team Teal is an initiative of WomenCan, a not-for-profit organisation that exists to raise funds for pioneering gynaecological cancer research and prevention & education programs through the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG).
Team Teal raises funds and awareness for women with ovarian and other gynaecological cancers, through celebrating your achievements in sport. Donations and pledges are made to recognise these achievements, with further support from community fundraising and sponsorships. Teal is the international colour symbolising ovarian cancer.
Our mission is to enable women with ovarian and other gynaecological cancers to live better and live longer.

TEAM TEAL HISTORY
The Team Teal campaign was created by Duncan McPherson OAM who lost his wife Lyn to ovarian cancer in 2010. In failing health, Lyn began fundraising for ovarian cancer research, an initiative that Duncan connected with his passion for harness racing, co-founding Team Teal with fellow owners and trainers, Michael Taranto and Jim Connolly.
The campaign expanded from harness racing in Victoria to New South Wales in 2016, to harness racing in all Australian states in 2017 and internationally to harness racing in New Zealand in 2018.
WomenCan aims to extend the Team Teal campaign to run throughout the year with other sporting codes.

Your impact
Funds raised throughout the Team Teal campaign support ANZGOG’s research and education program – Survivors Teaching Students, bringing ovarian and gynaecological cancer survivors into the classroom of medical students to share their lived experiences.
Over the last four years, the Survivors Teaching Students program has doubled its research and reached over 4,000 medical students. We’ve also expanded our team in New Zealand, grown our volunteer pool, and conducted presentations at two hospitals.
The funds further provide support for patients to access gynaecological cancer clinical trials, particularly in regional and remote areas, ensuring women have access to the best available care irrespective of where they live.
