The 5 Peak Challenge: September 10
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month and team "Peaks 4 Kristen" is embarking upon its 4th annual fundraiser: Hiking 5 of the Glass House Mountains in One Day. Funds raised support the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) through Kristen's Living Legacy Fund for Research.
Lead by big-sister Elsa, the team will ascend these five mountains in one day, pushing through the fatigue and pain in honour of Kristen and all the other young women who have lost their lives to this disease. Over $10,000 has been raised by “Team Kristen” over the past three years, raising awareness of the disease as well as much needed funds for research.
KEEN TO JOIN?:
The day begins with a short hike up Wildhorse Mountain in time to watch the sunrise over the ocean and to reflect and honour the lives of those loved and lost to the disease. The team will then set forth to the twin peaks of Mt Coochin, followed by Mt Beerburrum; Mt Tibberowuccum; and ending with Mt Ngungun. This totals over 12km distance and 750m elevation gain. OVARIAN CANCER?
Ovarian cancer is the least survivable women's cancer. Symptoms can include: bloating, eating less and feeling fuller, bowel habit changes, needing to urinate often or urgently, painful intercourse, bleeding between periods or after menopause, abdominal/pelvic/back pain, indigestion, unexplained weight changes and fatigue. If you experience any chances for two weeks or longer please discuss them with your doctor. There is no early detection tool that can screen for ovarian cancer.
