Stepping Up for Ovarian Cancer Research

September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month. 

This Sunday the 19th of September I'll be walking up the 5 Glasshouse Mountains in Brisbane in one day - to raise funds for low-grade serous cancer research. 

The walk is being organised by a good friend Elsa. I first met Elsa and her sister Kristen on a trip to Australia in 2019. For me, Kristen really modelled how to live well when time is short. She embraced life but was also incredibly active in raising funds for research and advocacy - you can see how we would be friends! Unfortunately, like too many women with my cancer Kristen passed away at 27 years old but her big sister Elsa continues to be a huge support in our low-grade serous community.  

I've wanted to do this walk for awhile with Elsa, but September is always a really busy time. However, I've decided to take the plunge and yesterday I booked my flights. 

I'll be going from lows of 3c to highs of 27c - so it's going to be pretty warm. Hopefully I can manage all 5. I'm going to give it my best shot!

The funds raised support Cure Our Ovarian Cancer's Australian Charity Partner the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG). 100% of the funds raised through the event will be used for LGSC research (my specific type of ovarian cancer). Research to give people with LGSC more time to do the things they love in life.
