Why i'm fundraising...
As most of you know, and to those that don't our most sincere apologies as this will come as a shock to you, our Mum, Grandma, Wife, Marilyn, Maz, Aunty Mel, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Uterine Cancer (Uterine Carsinosarcoma - to be precise) in June this year. It was a shock that sent us all into a spin except the woman herself. As with everything else in her life she took this diagnosis in her stride and faced it head on. With a very
quick trip home from Alice Springs it was doctors appointments and tests
galore.
We have been lucky in our family up until now....and we are still lucky as the
Doctor's were able to remove the tumour during a hysterectomy and as Mum puts it "I no longer have Cancer". This of course has not stopped
the need for 4 doses of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy just to
be certain this insidious and aggressive tumour is not still lurking ready to
reappear when least expected.
Mum has been amazing and decided that instead of losing her hair bit by bit after the first round of chemo, she would instead have a Shave Grandma's Head Day. This led to a day of fun and laughter while all the Grand kids gave
Grandma a rainbow coloured Mohawk for a few hours and then shaved this off too.
This has inspired Claire and I to shave our heads to support Mum and also raise some funds for the Women's Cancer Foundation in their Women Can campaign. This foundation conducts research into women's gynaecological cancers and provides support for women with gynaecological cancers.
