kristen's story

Kristen lived by the quote “if your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough”.

At the age of 21, Kristen’s life changed forever as she was diagnosed with advanced Ovarian Cancer. Kristen showed incredible courage and determination and always held hope. She continued to dream big and wanted to make a difference for her fellow Teal Sisters.

Over 6 years, despite being in continuous treatment, Kristen was a champion for raising awareness of the disease and funds for research. The impact Kristen had in elevating the Teal profile and raising awareness worldwide, is immeasurable.

Her extensive volunteer efforts were recognised as a Young Australian of the Year 2019 finalist for Queensland. Kristen's final advocacy project was the Ovarshare Podcast, which she created as a platform to share the stories of young women affected by Ovarian Cancer.

In confronting her mortality, Kristen sought to ensure her advocacy efforts would live on. She established “Kristen’s Living Legacy” shortly before her passing on the 9th of December 2019, offering her loved ones a meaningful way to carry forward the work she began. It was deeply important to Kristen that research funding would continue, providing hope to other young women following in her footsteps. Every step taken in Peaks4Kristen honours that vision.

Her smile so genuine, and her laugh always full of joy. Kristen’s story will live on, will continue to impact, and inspire us.

What the funds are used for

Peaks 4 Kristen supports Kristen’s Living Legacy which funds vital research into Low-Grade Ovarian Cancer. This type of Ovarian Cancer affects younger women like Kristen, and has a survival rate of only 15%. Unlike more common cancers, Low-Grade Ovarian Cancer receives limited research funding, making it difficult to make significant progress.

With your support, you are contributing directly to targeted research that addresses the specific needs of this disease. Donations help fund critical studies, improve treatment options, and ultimately work towards increasing survival rates for younger women affected by this rare form of cancer.
