Helen Aygur 1973 – 2021
Helen was a kind, caring, joyful woman. She was a much loved mum, fun and active. She loved to participate in her local community groups, to support others wholeheartedly, and was conscientious about her health.
In April 2018, Helen was suddenly diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the young age of 44.
Over the next three years, Helen endured surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and accessed a clinical trial. She was hopeful and optimistic. Her courage inspired everyone who met her and she never gave up. She continued to be active, and to live life to the fullest.
Unfortunately it was not enough to keep ovarian cancer away. On 24 May 2021, we lost our beautiful Helen. She left behind a young daughter and heartbroken loved ones.
This year, in July 2023, Helen would have turned 50 years old. This was a treasured milestone that she looked towards. Helen’s dream was to age with time and to be there for her family. She prayed for that blessing in her life.
Helen was fortunate to have a wonderful team of clinicians, who innovated and strived hard. But these excellent teams need more funding for research.
Each of us have friends, sisters, mothers, aunties, wives or daughters, just like Helen, who deserve better outcomes in preventing and treating ovarian cancer, and who deserve the gift of age and time with their loved ones.
It is our hope, that Helen’s story will inspire you to help make a difference.

peak national gynaecological cancer research body - Australia New Zealand
Gynaecological Cancer Group (ANZGOG).
