Making A Difference, Together

We believe in the power of the collective, and that by working together we can make a real difference in the lives of people with a lived experience of gynaecological cancer.

Our community volunteers bring their voices to education, advocacy and research to achieve this.

Community Volunteers

People with a lived experience of gynaecological cancers are the centre of everything we do, whether that is designing clinical trials, advocating for research funding, or educating the next generation of health professionals.

ANZGOG’s Community Engagement Program delivers opportunities for people with lived experience of gynaecological cancers to contribute meaningfully and fosters a groundswell of action through our volunteers, to impact outcomes for women now and in the future.

At the heart of everything that we do

“The community is at the heart of everything that we do at ANZGOG. They remind us how important advancing research is for others, they keep us on track, focusing on what matters most and they shape ANZGOG’s research direction by providing their unique lived experience.”
Professor Clare Scott AM
ANZGOG Chair

Community Engagement Program

We are creating a model of community involvement at every step along our research process, ensuring community volunteers have a voice both within ANZGOG and our research, and more broadly alongside us with our primary stakeholders. People with a lived experience of gynaecological cancer can participate in three areas of activity:

Education

Join a program of 100+ volunteers who share their story to teach the doctors of professional about gynaecological cancers.

Advocacy

Use your voice and share your story to advocate for research funding, saving lives and empowering women.

Research

Contribute to ANZGOG research at every stage of the development process by using your unique lived experience.

You could help save lives

Depending on individual areas of interest, or expertise to contribute, each person is matched with the volunteer pathway most suited to them. There are also opportunities to contribute at different levels within each pathway, as there are a number of roles with varying selection criteria and time commitments.

Volunteers are highly valued for their time, effort and contributions. All ANZGOG Community Volunteers are provided with training and ongoing support to fulfill their role. Each role is well guided with a Volunteer Agreement, Induction, and support network.

Each year in Australia 1,786 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and over 1,000 women lose their life. More funds are needed for critical research to find better treatments, to change these statistics and to help save women’s lives.

Fundraise

Every day, we meet and speak with women who are fighting for their lives. That is how we know the work is needed and urgent.
